We are pleased to announce that as of Monday, April 3, 2017, ICT Food Circle has become part of K-State Research & Extension-Sedgwick County. We are excited about this change, and we have lots of ideas for the future!
If you are not familiar with KSRE-Sedgwick County and our programs, I would encourage you to visit our website and Facebook page to learn more about us. I’m Rebecca McMahon, one of the horticulture agents. I’m responsible for the food crops (fruits, vegetables, herbs) programming, and I typically work with everything from growing an herb plant in a container, to community and school gardens, to commercial scale production.
As we get this program integrated and up to speed as the new growing season gets started, I will be looking for people who are passionate about the potential for this program. If that is you, I invite you to get involved! Check out the sidebar for links to Facebook, Twitter, and our newsletter.
I will be holding an ICT Food Circle Meet & Greet / Visioning Meeting on Monday, April 17th at 6:30 pm in the Extension Center Sunflower Room. I want to meet those of you that I don’t know yet, and I’d like to get ideas from everyone about what ICT Food Circle can do to promote and grow our local food system. If you can’t attend, I would be happy to talk via phone, email, or in person if you have ideas or concerns. RSVP here.
If your favorite farmer or business is missing from the Farmer Directory, encourage them to contact us so we can add them! We are in the process of updating the website and preparing for the season, so now is a great time to get signed up. The Farmers’ Market Calendar has been updated, but please let me know if we have missed a market or event.
We look forward to a great year of connecting Wichita with our local producers and local food!
